Hi! I’m Michelle and I’m a fully qualified counsellor with a Masters Degree in Integrative Counselling from Leeds Beckett University. I’m a member of the BACP and as such follow their ethical framework.
Before I became a counsellor, I was a teacher and I really enjoyed being a pastoral leader and having the opportunity to connect with people and helping them to find ways to overcome any difficulties they were facing - that’s why I wanted to become a counsellor. After 20 years in the education sector, I lost my mum just before lockdown in 2020, took on caring duties for my elderly father, quit teaching and started studying for my counselling qualification.
As a counsellor, my main aim is to help you to make sense of what is going on for you and to find a way through it. I have firsthand experience of what it feels like to battle with mental health issues and although I might not have been through everything you are going through, I will use my knowledge and expertise to empower you to deal with whatever is troubling you.
As an integrative counsellor, I use a variety of methods to help my clients but central to my work is the counsellor/client relationship. I am committed to being alongside you in whatever you are struggling with and provide a space that is confidential, free from judgment and gives an opportunity for exploring your feelings and thoughts.
People come to me for help a wide range of issues. Here are a few of the more common difficulties that can be supported through counselling:
Stress
Trauma
Depression
Relationship problems
Problems with confidence or self-esteem
Anger
Anxiety
Problems with addiction
Sexuality
Post-traumatic stress
Grief, loss or bereavement
Work or retirement
Abuse
Family or school life
I work with clients in a homely, comfortable setting close to the village of Wentworth in Rotherham, between junctions 35 and 36 of the M1. 5 minutes away from Chapeltown in Sheffield and 5 minutes from Hoyland in Barnsley. Alternatively, I offer online sessions.
Sessions last 50 mins and cost £50. I am happy to negotiate lower fees for people on low income, students or under-19s.
To book a free 20 minute phone consultation with me, please contact me via the form below. The phone call is an opportunity for you to work out if I’d be the right therapist for you and for me to make sure that I am qualified to work with the issues you’re dealing with.
I am open to working either short- or long-term with my clients. Short-term therapy usually lasts 6-8 sessions. Weekly sessions are recommended but I know that is not always possible for people so am happy to see clients fortnightly if that best suits them.
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about how therapy works, or to arrange an initial assessment appointment. This enables us to discuss the reasons you are thinking of coming to therapy, whether it could be helpful for you and whether I am the right therapist to help.
You can also call me on 07845 520899 if you would prefer to leave a message or speak to me first. I am happy to discuss any queries or questions you may have prior to arranging an initial appointment.
And all contact is strictly confidential.
